MOQ depends on extract, form, and stock vs custom
Minimum order quantities vary more than buyers expect. Commodity extracts may start low; custom blends or specific purities require larger runs. Always get MOQ in writing per SKU, because a verbal low minimum rarely holds once the batch size hits production planning.
Custom blends: who owns the formula
If you need a specific ratio or a multi-extract blend, ask whether the supplier formulates to your spec or only sells standard items, who owns the formulation, and whether a development fee is charged or absorbed into volume. Ownership terms decided late become the reason a formula cannot move to a second supplier.
Documentation for private label
The same COA, MSDS and TDS package applies, plus a label-compliance review for your target market. A supplier that runs private label regularly already has a templated document flow, which is what keeps your launch from stalling on a missing sheet at artwork approval.
Verify before signing
Confirm sample lead time and whether a paid pilot batch is required, whether the supplier supports small brands or only large distributors, and ask for reference clients without NDA breaches. The right partner reduces your documentation and formulation risk, not just your unit cost.
