Two delivery forms drive formulation fit

Astaxanthin is usually supplied as an oil-soluble oleoresin or emulsion for softgels and oil blends, or as a water-dispersible microencapsulated powder for beverages, tablets and dry mixes. Fat-soluble delivery improves uptake in oil systems; powder fit depends on encapsulation quality. Pick the form from the product matrix, not from the headline percentage.

Specify stability conditions in the purchase order

Astaxanthin degrades with light, heat and oxygen. Ask for oxidation-protected packaging (foil, nitrogen flush), recommended storage temperature, shelf life, and a COA that includes a potency assay at release rather than only at production. Suppliers who cannot state storage and shelf-life terms are not controlling oxidation in transit.

Put these specs in writing before ordering

A complete astaxanthin PO states astaxanthin content (commonly 5% or 10% by HPLC), carrier and encapsulation method, heavy-metal and microbial limits, residual solvents, and country of botanical origin. Haematococcus pluvialis is the standard cultivated source; confirm it on the document so the material matches the regulatory status you expect.

Close the documentation gap before production

EU and US buyers should confirm the supplier can supply a TDS and MSDS alongside the COA, and that the material's regulatory status fits the intended application. A documentation-first export operation moves a formulator from sample evaluation to production run without a paperwork gap that stalls the launch.
