What is Tremella Polysaccharide?
Tremella polysaccharide is a branched glucuronoxylomannan from the silver ear (snow mushroom) with strong water-binding and film-forming properties - which is why it is positioned as a plant alternative to hyaluronic acid in cosmetics.
Cultivation
Tremella (Tremella fuciformis) is cultivated on substrates that support fruiting-body formation; the fruiting body, not the mycelium, is the traditional source of the cosmetic-grade polysaccharide.
Extraction and purity
Hot-water extraction, purification and spray-drying raise the polysaccharide content to 90%, 95% or 98%. Higher purity grades are used where a clean, low-color cosmetic ingredient is required.
Applications
It is used in cosmetic hydration - serums, masks, lotions - and in clean-beauty formats, and also in food and beverage. Its film-forming feel and humectant properties are the selling points formulators cite.
