Product Knowledge Base
Everything buyers need to know about bamboo leaf antioxidant
Technical depth that helps formulators and procurement teams choose with confidence.
What is Bamboo Leaf Antioxidant (AOB)?
Bamboo Leaf AOB is a natural antioxidant from Phyllostachys edulis leaves, rich in flavonoid glycosides - orientin, isoorientin and vitexin - plus lignans. It is used as a clean-label antioxidant in food and cosmetics, a plant alternative to synthetic preservatives.
Xianning bamboo sourcing
Leaves are harvested from bamboo (Bambusoideae) forests, including the Xianning region of Hubei. Using the leaf - a renewable byproduct - makes AOB a sustainable, low-cost antioxidant source.
Extraction and flavonoid standardization
Aqueous or ethanol extraction, concentration and spray-drying raise total flavonoids to 20% or 30%. As always, confirm the assay method, because flavonoid content varies with the detection basis.
Applications
AOB is used for natural antioxidant and preservative effects in foods and beverages, and as a free-radical scavenger in cosmetics and skincare. It is water-soluble and relatively heat-stable, which suits processing.
Quality and testing
We test total flavonoids (UV method), heavy metals, microbiology and residual solvents. Food versus cosmetic grade should be specified, as the limits differ.
RFQ checklist
Confirm total flavonoid percentage, acceptable solvent residues, food or cosmetic grade, and pack size. The grade choice drives both compliance and price.
